Supportive Nervous System Regulation
What is Trauma informed Yoga? Trauma informed Yoga is a client centered modality of Yoga in which the guide has gained through knowledge, understanding, and respect the impact of trauma to the body, nervous system, and mind. This modality supports embodiment through asana, breathwork, and meditation guided by a teacher who makes a conscious decision to take this vantage while providing a grounding support system.
Yoga supports the ability to self-regulate and overall body awareness. When Trauma occurs, it is stored in the body first- talk therapy is incredibly helpful however it is only accessing a part of the lived experience. Trauma stored in the body manifests in different symptoms, and ailments. Somatic experiences like Trauma informed Yoga help integrate this experience and provides tools to self soothe and regulate.
The work and research of
Dr. Stephen Porges informs us of the Vagus nerve's (the key component of our nervous system) connection to trauma. Grounding practices such as Yoga have been shown to improve vagal tone which is supportive of mental and physical health. Through different Yogic practices we work towards regulating the nervous system and strengthening vagal tone.
Breathwork (Pranayama) are various ancient breathing exercises that involve regulating the breath. Here you are safely guided into a deeper state of consciousness, connecting to your own inner guide to show us what needs to be seen and felt in order to integrate. Connecting to a more supportive, compassionate and embodied self.
Meditation and mindfulness are powerful tools for cultivating inner peace and calm. Join me for a guided meditation class and learn how to quiet your mind and connect with your own inner wisdom. Cultivating a supportive meditation has been proven to encourage overall feelings of well-being and wholeness.
At Embodied Breath Wellness, all offerings are shared through a Trauma informed lense, with the belief that the client has all the tools for their own healing already at their disposal.
I believe that yoga is a holistic practice that can benefit the mind, body, and spirit. I approach yoga as a tool for self-discovery, personal growth, and healing. As a guide I am here to illuminate the light and healing already innate in you by providing a safe environment and support.
I began my own Yoga journey a decade ago- encouraged by my therapist- as a support to begin to regulate my overstimulated nervous system. As someone who struggled for years with depression and severe anxiety my body at that time did not feel like a safe space. The healing I found in Yoga has been a transformative journey that brought balance to my mind, body and spirit. I am currently a RYT-200 and have my certification under TCYM (Trauma Conscious Yoga Method) as a certified Trauma Informed Yoga guide.
